Wonaeamirri granted leave of absence
Melbourne forward Austin Wonaeamirri has been granted a leave of absence by the AFL club to return home to the Tiwi Islands.
The 22-year-old Wonaeamirri has battled hamstring and knee problems in 2011, playing five games for a career total of 31.
"Austin has endured a difficult year with the passing of his father Matthew and mentor Maurice Rioli and has returned home to spend time with his family," the Demons said in a statement.
"The Melbourne Football Club will continue to support Austin through this time and he returns home with the full blessings of the club.
"We look forward to Austin returning to the club in the near future."
