Australia suffer sevens heartache
Sibusiso Sithole scored a solo try from the final phase of the match to give South Africa a 36-35 win over Australia in the final of the season-ending Edinburgh Sevens.
Sithole picked up from the base of a ruck, outpaced two opponents, palmed off another on the wing and dived over in the corner to complete a comeback from 28-7 down.
Australia had ended New Zealand's hopes of rounding off their IRB World Series-winning campaign with a fifth win from eight events with a 19-12 semi-final upset.
Having won last week's London Sevens, South Africa finished second in the overall standings as England slipped to third with two defeats.
England lost to New Zealand in the cup quarter-finals before suffering a 34-19 loss to Fiji in the plate.
