Goodes hopes for another Judd battle
Adam Goodes would love another crack at fellow dual Brownlow Medallist Chris Judd on Friday night as Sydney prepare to face a Carlton side battling to break their SCG hoodoo.
It will be Sydney's first Friday night SCG regular-season home game since 2003, but Carlton have to go back a further 10 years for their last win at the famous venue.
Goodes and Judd have played on each other previously, but the Sydney co-captain now spends more time up forward than in midfield.
Asked if he could line up on Carlton skipper Judd on Friday, Goodes said: "I think there's every chance.
"I think with the way we are playing with our press that there's going to be times where everyone will be covering on Chris Judd at some stage.
"I would love to get another opportunity.
"He's a fantastic player and I really like challenging myself against the best in the business and he's definitely up there.
"The things that I enjoyed when I played against him, it was two guys going after the footy and they weren't so much worried about each other too much, they were going out and playing their own game."
Carlton assistant coach Alan Richardson couldn't guarantee Goodes would get his wish, but didn't rule out a potential match-up with Judd.
"It would certainly be a good thing from a supporters or crowd perspective to see that match-up, but it mightn't be something we go after, it might be, but we'll just wait and see."
On a rain-soaked Sydney day, the Blues copped a fearful drenching shortly after they started training at the SCG on Thursday.
More rain is forecast on Friday and Goodes was confident Sydney had learned from their last-start loss to Geelong at the SCG.
"We didn't adapt to the conditions (against Geelong)," he said.
"We still tried to chip it and over-handball. I think Geelong really showed us how to play the wet conditions.
"No-fuss football in the wet, kick down the line and create a contest and get numbers to the contest and win that contest and get it forward.
"We trained all week in it, so hopefully if it is wet tomorrow night we would have learned our lesson and it won't take us a quarter-and-a-half to switch mode."
The Blues could be motivated by their narrow finals loss to Sydney at ANZ Stadium last September but they hadn't dwelt on their horror record in the harbour city.
"We haven't spoken about it, it's a very different team to last year," Richardson said.
Carlton named an unchanged side, while Sydney recalled veterans Tadhg Kennelly and Jarred Moore in place of injured youngsters Alex Johnson (hamstring) and Gary Rohan (knee).
On Thursday Sydney also announced a five-year renewal of their deal with principal partner QBE through to the end of the 2016 season, which will extend the relationship to 30 years.
