Pearce shrugs off form concerns
NSW halfback Mitchell Pearce has shrugged off criticism of his form as the representative season looms and his Sydney Roosters struggle.
Pearce has come under scrutiny as the 2010 grand finalists have slumped to 2-5 amidst the Todd Carney off-field dramas, but the No.7 was strong in the Roosters' 24-10 loss to St George Illawarra on Monday.
"I don't think I'm playing that bad footy that I can't handle anything but whoever the selectors want to go with, I'm sure they'll pick the right person," Pearce told AAP.
"If they pick me I'll do my best.
"I haven't been too disappointed, I feel like I've been doing some good things.
"A few things I want to improve on, but I don't think I've been playing that bad.
"It would be great to be there (in State of Origin) but ... at the Roosters we're two from seven so it's something we need to pull ourselves out of and keep working together.
"I think if I'm doing all my preparation here, then if the chance arises I'll be ready to go for that.
"If you're worrying about that stuff you're no good for either (group of) people."
The 22-year-old ran 65m for a try that briefly got the Roosters back into the Anzac Day clash with the Dragons at the Sydney Football Stadium, and also had a hand in Justin Carney's four-pointer.
He would appear to be a near certainty for Ricky Stuart's side, with his nearest challengers Newcastle's Jarrod Mullen and Kurt Gidley, Canterbury's Trent Hodkinson and Brisbane's Peter Wallace.
Carney's loss means the Blues are on the lookout for a five-eighth, with the Dragons' Jamie Soward firming as the favourite.
"He's been playing great for the last couple of years and I thought he played his normal solid role (on Monday)," Pearce said.
"I'm sure he'll be picked in that Country side and he's playing as good as anyone."
