Hawks play waiting game on coach
Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett says the AFL club will not speak to any other coaching candidates until after post-season discussions with Alastair Clarkson.
Clarkson's contract expires at the end of the season, and the Hawks have put off talks about whether he continues until then.
Kennett said that had been agreed between both the club and Clarkson.
"We will discuss his future and his requirements at the end of the season," Kennett told the Nine Network's The Footy Show.
"Between now and when we have our discussions with Clarko, no one else at the club is authorised to speak to anyone else, nor will we.
"And we may not have to, because once those discussions are complete, it may be that Clarko may wish and we may (wish) to extend his contract."
The former Victorian Premier also ruled out taking up the reins as AFL should Andrew Demetriou ever decide he wants to step down.
Kennett, whose term as Hawthorn boss runs out at the end of the season, said he would step away from football once he relinquished the presidency.
