Brisbane forward Nick Kenny has finally won the battle with his body and is ready to resume an NRL career derailed last season by injury.

It will be a tough road back for the 28-year-old as Brisbane is well stocked with props - headed by Ben Hannant and Sam Thaiday - heading into the 2011 season.

But Kenny knows only too well what's needed after battling his way into Brisbane's pack late in the 2005 season.

He's played another 68 games since, a notable effort for someone who emerged from the Australian university system.

Kenny's comeback begins at Rockhampton's Browne Park on Saturday for the Central Queensland Comets against defending premiers North Pride.

He admits impatience got the better of him in 2010, limiting him to just 10 games coming off an outstanding previous season.

As a qualified physiotherapist, you'd expect him to know better than most how to manage his injuries.

But he was so driven by his desire to play for the Broncos it clouded his professional judgment.

"That was the big lesson I learned last year - I'd never really had too much trouble with injuries," Kenny told AAP before his comeback game in in his home town of Rockhampton.

"I missed a lot of football because I was impatient with injuries and came back too quickly."

While Kenny is under pressure to show coach Anthony Griffin he can make an impact with hard hitting defence and the ability to off-load in heavy traffic, he won't be ripping into Saturday's Queensland Cup game with that in mind.

"I've just got to play my natural game. That's what got me in the Broncos side in the first place and that's what will get me there again," he said.

"I had a great year in '09 and was looking forward to building on that last year but my body let me down."

Kenny is in no doubt that he can confound the critics and win back his starting spot by playing even better football.

"I don't just want to get back to the Broncos, there's a lot more. I really want to kick on and reach what I believe my potential is, and that starts in Rocky this weekend.

"I'm not finished yet, not by a long way.

"I'm 100 per cent certain I can get back to where I was and even better .

"I'm at the Broncos a couple more years yet and I'd love to play on beyond that."

Griffin has noticed the signs.

"He's over all his injuries and you can see he has that hunger about him," said Griffin.

Comets captain Ian Webster said Kenny's return home would give the team a big lift against the premiers.

"Nick is something of a legend in Rocky," Webster added.
