Kenny hopes his NRL injury curse is over
Like his high-flying team, Brisbane prop Nick Kenny is taking nothing for granted after making an impressive NRL return.
Plagued by injuries last season, Kenny suffered a further setback with a calf muscle injury just before round one but he made up for some lost time with his effort in Friday's win over Wests Tigers.
He made his intentions clear with 15 strong charges in a busy 39-minute return, making 112 metres and also 29 tackles.
His stats looked good alongside teammate Sam Thaiday's 18 runs, 106 metres and 27 tackles, although Thaiday played more on the edge than in the middle of the ruck.
But Kenny is just relishing being back in the Broncos' 17-man squad, one of five potential starting props in coach Anthony Griffins rotation.
"Last year was incredibly frustrating," said Kenny on Monday.
"Even this year I got struck down by a calf injury so I'm just glad to be back and rapt to be part of the team at the moment.
"The fact we're going so well makes it all the more enjoyable."
After a two point first round loss to the Cowboys, the Broncos have gone on a six game streak heading into their Friday night Suncorp Stadium collision with the in-form Bulldogs.
Kenny said Brisbane were determined not to ease off and realised things were going to get tougher heading into the representative season.
"We can't slacken off because of the position we're in," said Kenny.
"There's no reason why (the winning streak) can't continue but we have to keep our mind on the job and not get complacent just because we've won a few games.
"We got the points on the weekend but there were a few defensive errors that let the Tigers back in the game and gave them a sniff and we weren't happy about that and neither was Hook (Griffin)."
The Bulldogs have the strike players who can cash in on any Brisbane errors, especially with lightning-quick fullback Ben Barba in such scintillating form.
"He's full of confidence and playing great footy, he'll be one player we definitely have to contain," said Kenny.
"You earmark those attacking threats but they are a consistent team across the park and they grind away at you for 80 minutes."
Barba has scored eight tries in seven games and Kenny said he hopes he keeps his raids to the outside of the field.
"I hope he keeps on running out wide because his fancy footwork is not easy for us to defend.
"We've got to keep the ruck nice and tight and shoo him out to the backs. Those blokes like Hogdo (Justin Hodges) and Ready (Jack Read) can handle him.
