Brumbies intent on just 'playing footy'
The Brumbies have put a shock loss and reports of internal grumbles behind them ahead of their Super Rugby clash with the Reds this weekend.
Coach Andy Friend says recent reports about the team's direction and unhappiness in the ranks were raised at a team meeting on Monday, following the 25-24 loss to the new Rebels outfit in Melbourne on Friday.
"We asked in the team meeting were there any other issues?" Friend told reporters in Canberra on Monday.
"The answer was a resounding silence.
"So I can only go on that to say that, 'well, there are none and let's go out and play footy'".
As part of a change in Brumbies' coaching structure, the assistant coaches now have more say.
"There are lots of examples where you have got the head coach working with his assistants and allowing his assistants to deliver the message," Friend explained.
"That is what we are doing there."
Hooker Stephen Moore said some leaks from within the team were dispiriting.
"They know who they are," Moore said.
"It is disappointing and we've got to move forward the best we can."
However, Moore said the team was now fully focussed on this week's clash with his old side, the Queensland Reds.
The Reds, who crashed 30-6 to the Waratahs on Saturday, will take on the Brumbies at Canberra Stadium, where they have lost all nine of their Super matches.
"I guess they are (now) in the same position as we are - won one, lost one," he said.
"It is going to be a big game and they're going to have a pretty searching week as we are."
