Brumbies win race to sign Colby Faingaa
Brumbies back-rower Colby Faingaa turned down several offers from other Super 14 clubs to sign a one-year rookie contract with the Canberra-based side.
Faingaa, who made his Super 14 debut in the 30-23 win over the Chiefs in round seven, is following in the footsteps of his brothers, Queensland Reds twins Anthony and Saia, who both started out with the Brumbies.
The 18-year-old flanker was a consistent performer for the Brumbies during their French Tour last year and will now push for a permanent spot in the side.
"There was some interest from elsewhere but I really only wanted to stay at the Brumbies," Faingaa said.
"The Brumbies program is known as the best in the world and I feel like everything's starting to come together so I wanted to stay to keep developing my game."
Faingaa's elevation into the Brumbies' Super 14 side was fast-tracked by George Smith's right shoulder injury in the Brumbies' narrow loss to the Blues in round six.
Coach Andy Friend said coming from a talented pedigree, Faingaa has showed plenty of signs that he'll develop into one of the stars for the Brumbies.
"He's a strong player with a very high work rate and he packs a lot of power into his defence," Friend said.
"He comes from an impressive footballing family and he's shown that he's certainly capable of growing into an outstanding player at this level."
