Henjak to ignore critics in 2011

Brisbane NRL coach Ivan Henjak has given his critics and the Broncos' knockers a serve, telling those campaigning for his sacking their opinions don't count.

While not expecting the agitators to back off in 2011, Henjak says they won't distract him from finishing a job he started with a group of young players when he replaced Wayne Bennett in 2009.

"Look, all I can control is how I do my job," Henjak told AAP.

"Whatever agendas people have got, the stories they want to write or the headlines they want to make, I can't control that.

"I think we're on track. I think we've got a really good young team and I think they've got a lot of potential.

"I can't control much more than that. If something else happens, I'll just have to live with it."

Henjak, whose contract has been extended until 2012, has battled a raft of rumours. They reports last year he'd be replaced for this season by recently appointed NSW Origin coach Ricky Stuart, after Brisbane missed the play-offs for the first time in 19 successive attempts last year.

The latest Henjak rumour is his position will be reviewed after 10 weeks if Brisbane repeat their horror start to 2010 which put them under the pump early.

Talk is Wigan coach Michael McGuire, regarded as one of rugby league's brightest prospects, could be lured home to take over at Melbourne next year, freeing up Craig Bellamy to return to Brisbane where he was Bennett's right hand man for several seasons.

Maguire, who was Bellamy's assistant at the Storm before being head-hunted by Wigan, has also been linked to several other NRL clubs including Cronulla, Canterbury, Penrith and Manly. He's also been named as a possible replaced for Bennett should he leave St George Illawarra for 2012.

"I just can't let it worry me any more," said a resolute Henjak.

"I know it's been persistent and it's been frustrating at different times - but I've been through it so much over the last couple of years...

"Itwasn't just last year, there's always been speculation about how I was going to go and whether I'd be able to hang onto the job.

"I've made a point this year about trying to enjoy the season as much as I can and staying focused on the job."

Henjak said critics who stuck the boot in after Brisbane failed to make the finals last year were "hard markers".

"If they think it was an abject failure, they're dead wrong," he fired.

"Some of those kids had great years.

"The Matt Gilletts, the Josh Hoffmans, Ben Hunts, Corey Normans all came on, Mitchell Dodds, Josh McGuire, they've all developed as players.

"If the place was in such bad those kids wouldn't be improving and Matt Gillett wouldn't have been the (NRL) rookie of the year and Josh Hoffman our player of the year.

"There's always agendas outside the club but to be honest, their opinions don't count.

"The opinions that count are the people who are in this organisation."
