Saints re-signs six players
St Kilda on Friday announced the re-signing of six players, including veteran midfielder Robert Harvey and Coleman Medallist Fraser Gehrig, for the 2006 AFL season.
The other four players to sign new deals are midfielders Justin Peckett, Stephen Powell, Andrew Thompson and Aaron Fiora.
The finalising of their contracts means the only big-name player to exit Moorabbin after the 2005 season is Aussie Jones, who made the surprise decision to retire last month.
Jones, 29, is so far the only player removed from the Saints' list.
The club has added one player, promising 20-year-old forward Fergus Watts, traded from Adelaide.
Harvey, at 34 the AFL's oldest player, had contemplated retirement, as did 29-year-old back-to-back Coleman Medallist Gehrig.
There had also been question marks over the futures of Thompson, 33, and Peckett, 32, the Saints' only other players over 30, and 29-year-old Powell.
Harvey, who made his AFL debut in 1988, will enter his 19th season with 317 games to his credit, needing just another seven to overtake Nathan Burke as the Saints' games record-holder.
He was one of the Saints' best in their two finals this season, with the club suffering a narrow preliminary final loss to eventual premiers Sydney.
Fiora, 24, played his first season with St Kilda this year after spending five years with Richmond.
