Storm gets hit with another fine by NRL
Just as Melbourne thought their season from hell was coming to an end, the club has been hit with a $10,000 breach notice by the NRL over comments made by club trainers to an interchange official at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.
The breach notice has been issued following a formal complaint from the official after the loss to Wests Tigers.
NRL rules state that trainers must at all times comply with any direction or instruction from match officials and must not make argumentative, disparaging, derogatory or offensive comments to any match officials.
The comments followed the interchange officials' correct implementation of the rule which prevents an interchange taking place at a scrum.
"Regardless of the situation, people have to accept the rulings of the officials during the match," said NRL chief operating officer, Graham Annesley.
"In this case it appears the official was confronted for doing exactly as the rules require."
The Storm were earlier this year fined more than $500,000 and ordered to pay back $1.1 million in prize money by the NRL after they were caught systematically cheating the salary cap.
Melbourne will play their final match of the season in front of a sold-out crowd against Newcastle at AAMI Park on Sunday.
