Hicks plays the match of his career

For Chris Hicks, England must feel like a land of milk and honey.

The former Manly and Penrith flyer delivered the performance of his career in English rugby league's showpiece event as Warrington thumped Super League powerhouse Leeds in Saturday's Challenge Cup final.

The 33-year-old Australian winger was brilliant, scoring a hat-trick in the 30-6 belting as Wolves claimed back-to-back Challenge Cups at Wembley Stadium in front of more than 85,000 fans.

"It is incredible to win one and to go back-to-back is something that not too many teams have got to do," he said.

"And against Leeds is an unbelievable feeling and something that will probably take a few days to sink in."

Squeezed out of the Sea Eagles at the age of 30 following their 2007 NRL grand final loss to Melbourne, the speedster's move to England ensured he slipped off the radar back in Australia.

But he has carved out a prolific try-scoring record for the Wolves by just his third season, his hat-trick on Saturday propelling him to 69 tries from 80 matches.

"That speaks for itself, that is absolute b...shit," his teammate Matt King said.

"Hicksy loves to attack and I think the English Super League tends to favour the outside backs more than back home."

Hicks last month signed on with the Wolves for the 2011 season.

"I thought I would go around again and fingers crossed ... we could make it three in a row," he said.

He and 2007 grand final combatant King formed a lethal combination down Warrington's right side on Saturday in north London, regularly punching holes in the defence of the winner of the past three Super League crowns.

The only downside King could see post-match was that celebrations had to be kept in hand with five more weeks left in the Super League season.

"It is a bit strange. We go back to work on Tuesday and we have to prepare to play against Harlequins next week whereas back home you win something like this ... it is on for young and old for a couple of weeks," he said.

Hicks was at his most elusive on Saturday, starting with his opening try in the 18th minute.

King ran a cross-field angle that opened up a hole for Hicks who stepped past two players before carrying another couple of defenders across the line.

However his most impressive touchdown came in the 62nd minute off a beautifully-weighted kick from man of the match, Warrington playmaker Lee Briers.

Hicks leapt high and plucked the ball out of the grasp of opposite number Ryan Hall and found just enough room to plant the ball down.

Ten minutes later, the Australian killed off Leeds' slim chances of mounting a comeback by cutting back inside three players and again carrying a couple of defenders over.

Hicks almost had a fourth try in the final minute of the match but was unable to hold onto the intercept.
