'Foreign' WC title within Europe's grasp
Sunday's first World Cup final in Africa will for the first time produce a European victor in a tournament held outside Europe.
Spain or the Netherlands will win the title for the first time when the two teams meet at Soccer City in Johannesburg. The cooking pot-shaped stadium near Soweto was bathed in winter sunlight on Sunday, with wind whipping red dust over fans arriving early for the match.
European teams have featured in the deciding match in six of the eight World Cups held on other continents without winning once - perhaps due to the debilitating effects of heat.
At this World Cup in South Africa, the weather has been milder, and fans will be hoping for a spectacular finale.
