Mannah looking at Hayne for Eels boost
Leading Parramatta and North Queensland players are hoping the energy they felt during last Wednesday's State of Origin clash can carry through to their NRL match on Monday.
Although NSW lost 23-18 to Queensland to give up a series clean sweep, Parramatta's Blues' representatives Jarryd Hayne and Tim Mannah both had watershed matches.
Hayne finally rediscovered his mojo in his best showing of the season, while 22-year-old Mannah made a strong start to what shapes as a promising representative future.
The Eels are desperate for victory - with a gap now opening up between Daniel Anderson's side and the top eight after three straight losses.
Mannah said if Hayne can maintain his electric touch, their season remains alive.
"When Haynesy is performing he sparks the team up, and hopefully he can take that back to Parramatta because he is such a big player for us and we really need to start picking up some wins," Mannah said.
"He had played some great footy over the last two seasons and I think against Queensland in the second half that was him being close to his best.
"I wouldn't say it is the best I have ever seen him play, but it hopefully bodes well for our game on Monday that he is hitting form."
Mannah's selection in the Blues side was reward for consistency this year in a team that's been doing it tough.
The young bull, who plays off the bench for the Eels, said he enjoyed the Origin experience but doesn't have any immediate ambitions to dislodge Parramatta's starting bookends, Nathan Cayless and Fuifui Moimoi.
"We have two great forwards in Fui and Cayless who are legends of the game. I have learnt so much from both of them," he said.
"With (Justin) Poorey there as well we have some great front rowers and I happy to do my bit for the team whether that is starting or coming off the bench.
"It (Origin) is a bit surreal at first watching from the sidelines and then going into the game, the pace of the game is obviously faster than at club level, but I enjoyed the experience and am better for it.
"We have a couple of young players around the team and I would love to think I can remain part of the team for the future."
New recruit Arana Taumata, will start for the Cowboys in the centres, and captain Johnathan Thurston is hoping the influence of Queensland's sweep can spur his side on to at least get back on track.
"Definitely trying to take this positive vibe back and all this energy and try and turn our season around with the Cowboys that's for sure," he said.
"Arana, he's a great attacking player so hopefully he can find his spot there and he'll fit in the side well."
