Travolta creates Friday Morning Fever
Friday morning fever hit the World Cup when John Travolta visited the Socceroos' base camp.
The star of Saturday Night Fever handed out a few disco dancing lessons when he mingled with the players early on Friday at their safari lodge on the outskirts of Johannesburg.
Tim Cahill was the one who got Travolta going, and must hope he can manipulate the German defence with the same ease in Durban on Sunday.
Cahill asked Travolta to name some of his favourite songs.
When the movie star mentioned You're The One That I Want, Cahill asked: "How does that go again?"
Travolta, wearing a Socceroos scarf with his leather jacket and jeans, was soon singing away and replicating his dance steps from one of his best-known movies.
Cahill took lessons as the entire Socceroo squad clapped time.
The players were clearly thrilled with the diversion provided by Travolta, a qualified pilot and an ambassador for team sponsor Qantas, who flew a jumbo into Sydney to see Australia qualify against Uruguay for Germany 2006.
"I'm a huge fan," said midfielder Carl Valeri.
"I got a photo, I got my shirt signed and it's going straight to the pool room.
"I was actually a bit nervous. I've watched all his moves, I love his movies."
Captain Lucas Neill described Travolta as "one of our number one fans".
Travolta was presented with a personalised Socceroo shirt bearing the No.10 of one of his favourite players, Harry Kewell.
With Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce on hand, Travolta posed for photos with the whole Socceroo squad and support staff.
Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer said: "Hopefully it was a good omen to meet him again because the last time it worked in our favour (against Uruguay).
"It was nice for him to be here, not only supporting the Socceroos but also our (2022) World Cup bid.
