Kennedy ready to soar against Hawks

Sydney recruit Josh Kennedy is more concerned about halting the slumping Swans' bad form than coming up against his old club Hawthorn this weekend.

Midfielder Kennedy moved to Sydney late last year in search of increased opportunities and the switch appears to be paying off.

Sunday's game against the Hawks will be his tenth straight senior appearance, eclipsing his previous best run of nine successive games.

Kennedy said from watching videos it was evident the Swans weren't as switched on as they should have been in last week's loss to Fremantle

He said Sydney coach Paul Roos had made it clear their attack on the ball and endeavour had been found wanting and needed to lift.

"Obviously the last few weeks have been pretty disappointing and we need to try and find that thing that makes us win, that's the main thing for us this week," Kennedy said.

"It's not really about me or Ben (McGlynn) or my history with Hawthorn, it's about us trying to get another win on the board."

Kennedy is the only one of the five players Sydney acquired from other clubs in trade week to have played every game this year.

His former Hawthorn clubmate Ben McGlynn is likely to come back in the reserves this week following a quad strain, while full forward Daniel Bradshaw and ruckman Mark Seaby have also been laid low by injury.

The fifth Sydney new boy, ruckman Shane Mumford, is expected to return to the team this week after serving a suspension.

Kennedy was the third generation of his family to represent the Hawks.

Grandfather John Snr is a legend of the club having both captained and coached the Hawks, while his father John Jnr was a four-time premiership winner with the club.

Josh, 22, played just 13 games in two seasons before heading to Sydney.

"This will be my biggest run of games as a senior player and that's the main reason why I came up here, just building my confidence with every game and hopefully that can continue to build," Kennedy said.

Asked about his family's loyalties for this Sunday's match at the MCG, Josh suggested there would be some mixed feeling.

"They've been very supportive of the move and what's best for me, but I'm no doubt they will be a bit nervous this weekend.

"I'm sure they will be supporting the Swans, but there maybe a few members of the family that maybe hoping for a draw."

Asked specifically about his grandad's loyalties Kennedy said: "He's very supportive but he's certainly a Hawthorn man through and through.

"Mum is very much red and white, but dad is taking a bit longer to come around."

Kennedy said he hadn't really spoken to Rhys Shaw, who like himself broke a long standing family connection to one club, when he joined the Swans from Collingwood.

"I haven't really struggled with it to be honest, Shawy is a very good portrait I guess of how to make such a move," Kennedy said.
