Taylor already an All Star at Souths
New South Sydney rugby league recruit Dave Taylor says the early support he has received from Rabbitohs fans has given him "chills".
The big former Brisbane forward won the vote to represent his new club in the NRL All Stars side to play the Indigenous All Stars on February 13.
Taylor, 21, edged out Rabbitohs hooker Issac Luke for the honour, despite not yet having the opportunity to represent the club on the field.
"Everyone knows how much of a competitor (Luke) is and how much of a good player he is, it was awesome surprise to get picked over him," Taylor told reporters on Friday.
He rejected the suggestion the obviously high expectations of Souths supporters would put more pressure on him.
"It doesn't matter, it's just one of those things where you are excited the fans know who you are and they are excited to know what you can bring to the club," Taylor said.
"It gives me chills to know that the fans are behind me and are looking forward to having me at the club."
Taylor is one of only three players in the 20-man NRL All Stars squad, along with fellow forwards Nate Myles and Alan Tongue, not to have played a Test.
"I do feel like the rookie, it feels like when I made my (NRL) debut against Souths in 2006," Taylor said.
"I had Shane Webcke and Corey Parker and players and boys like that I looked up, you are playing with, it was a big opportunity.
"Now you've got Billy Slater, Cameron Smith, Darren Lockyer, an Benji Marshall, who I grew up in school admiring, I'm playing with.
"I don't want to let them down, I will be trying my hardest to succeed."
He finished fifth in the public vote and even attracted some votes as a centre, but said he didn't mind which position he filled.
