France hopeful Boks will resolve fixture
French rugby union officials are hopeful that a problematic fixture against South Africa that comes one day after the start of the football World Cup in the country will soon be resolved.
France are scheduled to play the Springboks on June 12, 2010, just a day after the opening of the June 11-July 11 World Cup but finding a suitable venue has so far proved impossible.
"I just hope that we can resolve this issue quite quickly because it's not clear if we can find flights and hotels due to the football World Cup," said Pierre Camou, head of the French rugby federation.
"But I have total trust in the South African federation."
The June 12 Test match was initially set for Cape Town, but the stadium there is out of bounds because it is to be used for the World Cup.
Asked whether the game could be transferred to French soil, Camou said: "That depends on South Africa. If, in one way or another, I can help South Africa resolve this problem, I'll do it with pleasure.
"I know the difficulty a football World Cup poses because I was not able to welcome South Africa at the Stade de France," Camou said in reference to Friday's Test match between the two countries.
That match, won 20-13 by France, was held in the southwestern city of Toulouse because of France's double-headed football World Cup qualifying play-off with Ireland.
