Kangaroos trade Gibson to Hawks
Hawthorn are unapologetic over the AFL trade that secured defender Josh Gibson from North Melbourne.
The Kangaroos are furious that Gibson has left Arden St, with new coach Brad Scott making his displeasure clear in a speech at Friday night's club best and fairest awards function.
Gibson was not invited to the dinner.
They had another parting shot for Gibson in a media release on Monday morning that confirmed the trade.
He will go to the Hawks along with draft pick 69 in return for picks 25 and 41.
"We will now have the opportunity to bring in two young players who desperately want to be at this club," North official Donald McDonald said in the statement.
"We have an extremely bright future and were only interested in people who believe in where were heading as an organisation."
Hawks recruiting boss Chris Pelchen said they had done nothing wrong in how they had gone after Gibson.
They were keen to secure a defender, given premiership backman Trent Croad continues to struggle with a serious foot injury.
"We did all our negotiations through his manager and those negotiations took place at the end of the season," Pelchen said.
"I don't think we've got anything to apologise for."
Gibson said he switched clubs for football reasons.
"The club has given me the chance to play a role and I look forward in contributing to the future success of Hawthorn," he told the Hawks website.
"I'd like to thank the Hawks for the opportunity and I look forward to playing my part."
