Bulldogs yet to finalise new Lake deal
While the Western Bulldogs have secured key forward Barry Hall, the AFL club remains unable to cement a new deal with Brian Lake.
The All-Australian key defender is out of contract and negotiations could continue once trade week ends this Friday.
The Bulldogs are adamant he will not leave, but cannot say when Lake will sign a new agreement.
"I'm not sure if it's going to be tomorrow, the next day or even next week," Bulldogs football manager James Fantasia told SEN on Tuesday.
"But we've made it very clear, right from the outset, that Brian Lake is an integral part of us having a crack at a premiership.
"He's had such a marvellous year and thoroughly deserved All-Australian selection.
"So we're sitting down with his management now ... it would be nice to be able to put it to bed."
Fantasia would not give details on what is holding up negotiations.
"It's difficult without going into specifics ... there's always going to be a sticking point somewhere," he said.
"Both parties have indicated they don't see an issue about parting, it's just about how you get detail into negotiations.
"From our point of view, that's where it's going."
Fantasia also stressed that defender Andrejs Everitt is a required player at Whitten Oval, despite plenty of interest from other clubs about a possible trade.
