Ellis wins Wests Tigers' top award
Great Britain international Gareth Ellis has capped a memorable debut season in the NRL by being named Wests Tigers player of the year.
Ellis was a standout in an inconsistent side, finishing the season as the club's forward leader in hit-ups and metres made.
Currently preparing for the Four-Nations tournament in England and France, Ellis said he would have been happy just to have held his own in the NRL after several dominant seasons with Leeds in Super League.
"I came in awe of some of the players that I now play alongside," Ellis said.
"It is just fantastic to be playing out there with the players that I do.
"It was a tough year in that we didn't make the finals but I really do feel the club is going in the right direction."
The rookie of the year award went to impressive 21-year-old Blake Ayshford, who excelled with eight tries 15 matches in the top grade.
