French rugby player has swine flu
French rugby player Maxime Medard has been diagnosed with swine flu after returning from an international match in Australia.
A feverish Medard went to a hospital on Thursday on the advice of the France team's doctor, Jean-Philippe Hager, the French Rugby Federation said in a statement on Friday.
He underwent tests that confirmed he has the H1N1 virus, the statement said.
All players and staff on the France team are following swine flu surveillance guidelines issued upon their return from Australia, the statement added, without elaborating.
The 22-year-old Medard, who plays for Toulouse, played on the wing in last Saturday's one-off test, won by Australia 22-6.
Australia has more than 1,000 confirmed swine flu cases, among them professional rugby players.
