Saints closing AFL betting gap on Cats
St Kilda are closing the gap on Geelong in terms of favouritism for Sunday's AFL blockbuster at Etihad Stadium and the AFL premiership.
While the Cats remain the clear punters' choice on both counts, Sportingbet Australia chief executive Michael Sullivan said the Saints' odds had narrowed considerably.
They are down from $2.65 last week to $2.45 to beat Geelong on Sunday, while their premiership odds have shortened to $3.80, from as much as $18 in the pre-season.
"We took a bet of $20,000 at $2.65 last week and the money has kept coming for the Saints (to beat Geelong)," Sullivan said.
"Punters clearly think the Saints are the real deal and can knock off the Cats who will still start short priced favourites for the game."
Geelong are $1.55 to beat St Kilda on Sunday and $2.00 favourites for the flag.
But Sullivan said the premiership market would tighten considerably if the Saints win on Sunday.
