Titans rest easy over Minichiello injury
The Gold Coast have received some good news with scans clearing forward Mark Minichiello of a serious ankle injury.
It was feared the younger brother of Roosters fullback Anthony Minichiello could miss the rest of the season after leaving the field in considerable pain against Manly at the weekend
But scans late on Monday cleared the 27 year-old of a recurrence of serious ligament damage to his syndesmosis, an injury which can take two to three times longer than an ankle sprain to heal.
Minichiello could even be fit to play for the Titans in their next NRL game against the Dragons on June 8 with a bye this weekend.
Minichiello injured his syndesmosis last season and was a shattered figure after the game against Manly when told he may have suffered the injury again to the same ankle.
The syndesmosis is a wide sheet of ligament that connects the fibula to the tibia.
Teammate Luke Bailey also missed almost half the 2008 season with the same condition.
"It's good news," said a Titans official.
"It's an ankle sprain and not syndesmosis which means he could miss a week or two and even be back for our next game which is great news.
"He was pretty shattered when told it could be serious after the Manly game."
The Titans, along with Brisbane and North Queensland, who all have key players involved in next week's State of Origin series, all have byes this weekend.
