Galloway on verge of Origin call-up
At the start of 2009 Keith Galloway's two goals were to maintain his Wests Tigers starting position and to play for NSW City Origin.
At no stage did those personal goals entertain the possibility of playing for the NSW Blues in this year's State of Origin series.
But after a magnificent start to the season where he has dominated at NRL level, Galloway is just 80 minutes away from booking a shock call up into the Blues Origin side.
If the 23-year-old delivers a standout performance in the City-Country clash in Orange on Friday night he could earn himself a position on Craig Bellamy's bench for Origin I on June 3.
With Brent Kite and Luke Bailey in the Australian Test team, Galloway is vying for two vacant front row positions in the NSW team and his biggest threats are all in the Country team - Michael Weyman, Josh Perry and Brett White.
"It's good to get a mention (for NSW) but it's not going to get me in the team," said Galloway.
"I have to play good and keep my form up and keep improving to get in the side.
"I've trained pretty hard in the offseason but I think I'm just maturing as a player. I'm learning more each year as it goes but a pretty solid offseason certainly helps a lot."
Galloway was 18th man in the City side that drew 22-all with Country in Wollongong last year, fuelling his desire to win a starting jersey for this year's game.
"It gave me a little bit of a taste for it last year and it's good to be in the team this year," he said.
"City was a goal because I was so close last year. That was the main goal and starting for the Tigers every week
"So far so good. I've still got a little bit to improve on but still happy with how things are going."
