Demons suspend Sylvia again
Melbourne have suspended midfielder Colin Sylvia for their final AFL practice game against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday for breaking a curfew.
In a disciplinary lapse which came as a blow on the same day the Demons announced they had signed a new major sponsor, Sylvia was penalised because he was out late on Sunday night and compromised his recovery following last weekend's practice game.
"Colin breached team expectations by being out late on Sunday evening," the club said in a statement.
"This failed to meet the standard of behaviour in relation to post-game recovery and rehabilitation."
Sylvia, 23, can consider himself lucky to have escaped a tougher penalty, as he was also suspended by the club a year ago for breaking a curfew and missing training.
On that occasion, he sat out the first round of the premiership season.
Despite the latest indiscretion, he will not be denied game time, as he played in Thursday night's intra-club match for the Demons' VFL affiliate, the Casey Scorpions.
