Johnson returns to Wales as Ospreys boss
Australian Scott Johnson is to return to Wales after being appointed the Ospreys' director of coaching.
The former Wallabies assistant and Wales backs coach is currently coach of the United States but has now given the Eagles the three months' notice required under his contract and will join up with the Ospreys at the end of the current season.
Sean Holley will remain as head coach, with Jonathan Humpheys staying in post as his assistant.
Ospreys director of rugby Andrew Hore said Wednesday: "We have considered over 20 coaches with the potential to measure up to a list of firm criteria.
"We believe Scott Johnson contains the right mixture of technical ability - particularly on the attacking side of the game - strong character, excellent communication skills, planning, management ability and innovation to help the Ospreys take the next step forward."
Jones, who had coached Ospreys since they were established five years ago, also led them to the Anglo-Welsh Cup title that season.
The Ospreys have again made it through to the last eight of European rugby's premier club competition, where they will face holders Munster in April.
Johnson, 46, was a member of the Wales backroom staff for a five year-spell which included their 2005 Six Nations grand slam.
He became caretaker head coach for three matches following Mike Ruddock's shock resignation in 2006, which took place amidst accusations the players, who were said to prefer working with Johnson, had forced Ruddock out.
Johnson became Australia's attack coach but left after their 2007 World Cup quarter-final loss to England before joining the Eagles last year.
