Australian full-back Peter Hewat scored five tries as London Irish crushed Connacht 75-5 in the European Challenge on Saturday.

The 30-year-old from New South Wales played a starring role as the Exiles racked up 11 tries in the Pool One clash at Reading.

Hewat scored once in the first half adding to scores from England full-back Delon Armitage, James Hudson, Chris Hala'ufia and James Bailey.

He then added his second in the 50th minute before grabbing a hat-trick in the space of 15 minutes. Topsy Ojo added two more to give London Irish a home tie in the quarter-finals.
