Scotland's Sean out but Rory Lamont fit
Scotland wing Sean Lamont has been ruled out of this Saturday's rugby international against world champions South Africa at Murrayfield with a hamstring injury.
The Northampton back pulled up sharply as he tried to chase Richard Kahui before the New Zealand centre scored a try in the All Blacks' 32-6 win over Scotland at Murrayfield last Saturday.
Lamont's injury means he will also not be fit for Scotland's final international this month, against Canada at Aberdeen football club's Pittodrie ground on November 22.
"A scan has shown a small amount of damage to Sean's hamstring, enough to rule him out of the remainder of the autumn Tests," Scotland's team doctor James Robson said Monday.
However, there was more encouraging news for Lamont's brother Rory with the Sale wing back in training on Monday after missing the New Zealand match with a shoulder injury.
Also on the way to regaining fitness is forward Simon Taylor after a strained calf meant he couldn't play against the All Blacks.
Wing Thom Evans (back), together with locks Jim Hamilton (ankle) and Nathan Hines (wrist), sat out training on Monday but none of the trio's injuries are yet considered serious enough to make then unavailable for the Springbok match.
Scotland have now played New Zealand 27 times over 103 years and their record reads won none, drawn 2, lost 25.
They didn't score a try either on Saturday against an All Black team showing 12 changes from the one that beat Australia in Hong Kong the previous weekend but Scotland assistant coach Graham Steadman was in upbeat mood.
"I have never felt as optimistic on the back of a defeat as I did on Saturday night, because I thought there was a lot for us to be excited about," the former Great Britain rugby league international said.
