Slater claim Melbourne Storm club honour
His team may have missed the NRL premiership but Billy Slater capped off a memorable year by being named Melbourne Storm's player of the year.
The fullback collected the honour at his team's end of season function in Melbourne on Friday night.
Slater made his Australian debut against New Zealand in the Centenary Test in May, and was last week included in the national squad for the World Cup, starting later this month.
The 25-year-old finished second in the competition's Dally M Player of the Year polling, and would have shared the award if not for a points deduction due to a week's suspension.
In other Storm awards, halfback Cooper Cronk won Best Back and Jeff Lima, Best Forward, while Aiden Tolman claimed Rookie of the Year.
Sika Manu was named Most Improved and Sam Shaw, the Michael Moore Trophy Club Person of the Year.
Backrower Dallas Johnson was named Life Membership inductee.
