Richmond lead hunt for Eagles' Seaby
Richmond are leading the chase to snare West Coast ruckman Mark Seaby in next week's AFL trade period.
The 24-year-old, 97-game Eagles premiership player has requested a move due to frustration at a lack of game-time behind the competition's best big man Dean Cox.
His manager Wayne Loxley said the Tigers were showing the most interest, with Carlton also in the hunt.
However, with the Blues expected to pick up another ruckman intent on leaving Western Australia, Fremantle 21-year-old Robert Warnock, it leaves the Tigers in the box seat to pounce on Seaby.
Richmond are keen to secure more support for their 30-year-old No.1 ruckman Troy Simmonds.
The Eagles are seeking a first round draft pick in return for Seaby.
But the Tigers are unwilling to part with their first selection, No.8 overall, with their second choice, No.26, a more realistic option.
Loxley said Seaby was prepared to go to any club which could work out a deal with the Eagles and offer him a greater share of the ruck load.
"When Mark spoke with (Eagles coach John Worsfold) he said he understood the reasons that he wanted to leave," he said.
"He was open to a trade, they'll consider it provided that the right trade is offered.
"There's no ill feeling, it's just a matter of him getting an opportunity."
Seaby is contracted to the Eagles for next season.
Meanwhile, Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams has broken with the trend of clubs putting their top draft picks off-limits.
Williams, whose club has the fourth selection in the draft, said the Power was willing to put that on the trade table next week to flush out a star from a rival club.
"There's no doubt that, come next Monday, we'll be putting picks four and (their second round pick) 22 on the table and we'll see what comes back as being available," the Port coach told reporters in Canberra on Friday.
Williams has previously expressed an interested in Collingwood star Alan Didak, whose future was placed in jeopardy when he was suspended for lying to Magpies officials and players over a drink-driving episode late this season.
But Collingwood have since indicated they are keen to keep Didak at the club.
