North confirm Melbourne as AFL home
North Melbourne have confirmed they will play all their home games in Melbourne next season for the first time in 12 years.
The AFL club said they would have the financial means to avoid selling games interstate after signing the biggest sponsorship deal in their history with Mazda, believed to be worth about $5.5 million over three years.
"It will help us achieve our aim of playing all 11 home matches in Melbourne next year, which has not happened since 1997," club chairman James Brayshaw said.
Mazda had previously been joint major sponsor with Vodafone, who have discontinued their support.
Late last year, the Kangaroos backed out of a deal with the AFL to play three home games per season on the Gold Coast, which was worth $1.2 million to the club.
But, after previously selling games to Sydney and Canberra to keep afloat financially, they had been looking to strike a new deal to play a home game at an interstate venue to make up the shortfall.
