Double Olympic champion Holmes quits
Britain's double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes announced her retirement from athletics on Tuesday.
Holmes, 35, who won the 800 and 1,500 metres at the 2004 Athens Olympics, confirmed she would not compete at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games next March.
She missed the Helsinki world championships in August with an Achilles injury but had been named provisionally in England's team for Melbourne.
Holmes had said she wanted to run the 1,500 only in Melbourne and then only if she were in good enough shape to be a medal contender.
