Pocock to lead Western Force on UK tour
Australian Under 20's skipper David Pocock will captain the Western Force's 28-man squad for their five-week rugby development tour of the UK later this month.
The Force will face off against Guinness Premiership sides Newcastle Falcons, Saracens, Leicester and Northampton plus two regional academy sides.
Wallabies Tai McIsaac and Scott Staniforth headline the touring party but forwards Scott Fava (ankle), Tom Hockings (shoulder) and David Pusey (foot), plus backs Nick Cummins (leg) and Cameron Shepherd (ankle) are unavailable due to injury.
Also absent will be Force captain Nathan Sharpe, flyhalf Matt Giteau, centre Ryan Cross and winger Drew Mitchell, who are all on Wallabies duties.
"We see David as a quality footballer and a quality individual and have recognised him as having outstanding leadership potential," Force coach John Mitchell said of Pocock.
"While all players in the squad are responsible for leadership, David has been named as captain for the UK tour and thoroughly deserves his position.
"We are expecting the English teams to field strong sides. These will be important pre-season trial matches for each of these teams and they will be just as serious as we are about performing well."
Winger Caleb Brown, who joined the club on a two-year deal last month, will represent the Force for the first time on the tour.
The team departs for England on July 31 and will return to Perth on September 3.
