Pick all Tahs in Wallabies squad: Tuqiri
Lote Tuqiri claims every single player in the Waratahs' Super 14 final team is worthy of a place in Robbie Deans' 30-man Wallabies squad to be named on Monday.
Two days after coaching the Crusaders against the Waratahs in a dream final in Christchurch on Saturday, Deans will take up his four-year posting with the Wallabies and announce his inaugural squad for upcoming Tests against Ireland and France.
And Tuqiri said all 15 players who run out against the Crusaders at AMI Stadium, and potentially some of the seven reserves as well, must come under serious consideration regardless of Saturday night's result.
"We're the best team in the Super 14, out of the Australian teams, so that's got to warrant a lot more in the selection room," the Waratahs and Wallabies star told AAP.
"Going by that, we've got to get a few more in ... we play to a style, a brand of footy, that has won us a fair bit of footy this year.
"It's got to translate."
Asked which NSW players might miss out on national selection, Tuqiri was unable to nominate any one of his in-form teammates.
The 58-Test veteran said even "unsung heroes" Tom Carter, who has played all 14 games at inside centre for the Waratahs this campaign, and forward revelation Dean Mumm, a standout at lock all season who also impressed at flanker when Rocky Elsom spent a month on the sidelines, deserved to be right in the mix.
"Tom Carter, he's a smokey, I think," Tuqiri said. "And if you're looking for go-forward, Dean Mumm definitely.
"He's got a lot of ability that bloke. He's quick, he can play in the back row, he can play in the lineout. He's got a lot of versatility.
"Tommy and Mummy in this team this year have probably been the unsung heroes.
"A lot of the adulation has probably gone to a few of the other bigger names, but they've certainly pulled their weight."
Tuqiri may well be on the money, with the entire NSW forward pack in Wallabies contention.
Inspirational flankers Elsom and Phil Waugh, along with powerhouse No.8 Wycliff Palu, could well form an all-Waratahs Test back row, with the Brumbies' Australian Super 14 player of the year George Smith the only other realistic possible inclusion.
Dan Vickerman is a certainty to be picked in the second row, alongside long-time partner Nathan Sharpe from the Western Force, Queensland captain James Horwill or Mumm.
NSW pair Tatafu Polota-Nau and Adam Freier and Queensland's Stephen Moore are battling it out for the two hooker spots, and Deans may even pick all three, while Waratahs props Matt Dunning, Al Baxter and Benn Robinson would all be confident of getting the call to once again join the Wallabies ranks.
In the backs, Tuqiri and halfback Luke Burgess are shoo-ins to make the 30-man squad, while fullback Sam Norton-Knight, a genuine utility player, winger Lachie Turner and Carter could well be in Deans's plans, especially if they impress him first-hand on Saturday.
Boom centre Rob Horne and playmaking five-eighth Kurtley Beale have already been chosen in Australia's under-20s team for next month's world championships in Wales, but might also be blooded in Tests later in the year.
While he is likely to be again named on the bench for the final after missing most of NSW's campaign with a hamstring injury, former rugby league international Timana Tahu would also surely be on Dean's radar and will at least be included in the 26-strong Australia A squad on Monday.
