Street a chance to return against Hawks

The Western Bulldogs are considering striking undefeated Hawthorn in Sunday's AFL clash in Launceston with a local boy who is the biggest weapon in their arsenal.

Tasmanian ruckman Peter Street is a strong chance to return to the side and play his first AFL game for the season after impressing for the club's VFL affiliate side Williamstown.

The 211cm beanpole - the AFL's equal tallest player - has been unable to force his way into the seniors this year due to the successful ruck partnership of former Adelaide big man and key off-season recruit Ben Hudson and Will Minson.

But Street, who has recovered from a knee injury he suffered late last season, is making a strong case with his VFL form, dominating ruck contests as well as working hard around the ground and pushing forward to kick goals.

"Pete's probably in career-best form, consistency-wise, at the moment," Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade said.

"He's been playing very well for Williamstown and he'll come into strong consideration this week because of the ruck and stoppage work of Hawthorn.

"He's right in the mix, and I think he's enjoying his footy at the moment, which is great. He certainly hasn't been forgotten about, and he's still in our plans."

Eade said the team had moved on quickly from last Sunday's heart-breaking three point loss to North Melbourne and that captain Brad Johnson had bounced back after missing the after-the-siren kick for goal.

"I spoke to Brad, he probably didn't have a great sleep on Sunday night but the character he is, he's bounced back pretty well.

"He's a very resilient character, he's won enough games for this club over a period of time to show that he's got that tough mental attitude."

Eade, however, admitted the team would have to be more consistent and defensively better against the Hawks at Aurora Stadium.

"We'd like to keep the opposition to less goals," Eade said.

"I think our tackling on the weekend was a bit inconsistent which had been a bit of a plus this year.

"Even before last week's game being undefeated, we still know there's a lot of room for improvement for us as a team.

"I think we've been a little bit inconsistent on quite a few fronts and we've still got some good players to come in."

Eade said Andrejs Everitt, Josh Hill, Jarrod Harbrow and Callan Ward were all pushing for spots, but the side's good form and short injury list were making it hard to find room.

Veteran midfielder Scott West will again miss with a knee injury but is likely to return the following round against St Kilda.
