Ex-Cowboys hooker Gatis quits UK club
Former North Queensland and New Zealand Warriors hooker George Gatis has quit English Super League club Huddersfield and will return home to Townsville for personal reasons.
Gatis, 30, was less than three months into a two-year contract and played 10 Super League matches for the Giants after being released by the Warriors last season.
"I have loved my time at Huddersfield but my family need me at home right now," Gatis said on the club's website.
"I had hoped to get through the year but it's not to be.
"I would like to thank the club for their understanding and the help they have provided me.
"The rugby field is the furthest thing from my mind at the moment.
"Not to be able to see the job through was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make - however I know I have made the right one."
Gatis made his NRL debut for the Cowboys in 2001 but played just 24 games before a broken arm and subsequent knee reconstruction in 2003 kept him out of first grade for several years.
He resurrected his NRL career with the Warriors in 2006, playing 39 games for the club the past two seasons.
