Tigers keep Bunnies winless after six

Four unanswered tries after the halftime break and a little bit of Mathew Head magic propelled Wests Tigers to a 30-10 NRL win over South Sydney at the SCG on Sunday.

Down 10-6 at the break, the Tigers turned up the heat in the second half with some wonderful set plays and precise hole running leaving the Rabbitohs without a win after the six rounds of the season.

The Bunnies stared impressively and appeared to have a fair try taken off them when the video referee denied Nathan Merrit after 12 minutes; he was ruled offside after a Jeremy Smith kick was spilled by Tigers custodian Brett Hodgson.

David Fa'alogo was then held up over the line but, showing a purpose they had lacked over the opening five rounds, the Rabbitohs twice rejected simple shots at penalty goal to push for the maximum.

Their endeavour was rewarded when John Sutton popped a ball for Beau Champion to cross and, when Fa'alogo sent Ben Rogers over for a 10-0 lead, South Sydney's first win of the season looked to be in the offing.

But a Smith knock-on from the kick-off changed the momentum with Chris Heighington running off a flat ball from Head - who was starting to warm to the task - with the Tigers closing to within four points at the break.

The Tigers looked a different team after the break, Head again coming to the fore with a flat pass for Dean Collis to score before John Te'o showed tremendous strength to hold off four defenders and somehow plant the ball for a 18-10 lead with 17 minutes left.

Souths co-captain David Kidwell then knocked on 15 metres out from his own line in a devastating blow for the visitors.

Hodgson put the issue beyond doubt as he took the ball from the scrum and fed Chris Lawrence who scored and the Tigers skipper converted from out wide for a 14-point lead.

Stuart Flanagan then completed a Lazarus-like comeback when he darted over from dummy half in the closing stages, the hooker having been taken from the field early in the game with a neck injury from a heavy collision with teammate Liam Fulton.
