Sharks forward Thompson tipped to retire
Veteran Cronulla backrower Lance Thompson is expected to announce his retirement from the NRL.
The former Dragons star is set to confirm he will be bringing down the curtain on his 13-year first grade career at a press conference at the Sharks' headquarters at 2pm on Wednesday, according to a News Limited website report.
The representative backrower has played just one game this season after struggling to come back from a knee injury.
The 30-year-old was also last year diagnosed with Type One diabetes.
Thompson made his first grade debut for the Dragons in 1995 before going on to play 201 games for St George and St George Illawarra.
He joined Cronulla at the end of the 2005 season after an acrimonious split with the Dragons, going on to play 36 games for the NRL club.
