Australia withdraws from Moroccan tour
Australia's world champion cricketers have been spared a planned one-day tournament in Morocco in August.
The Australian Cricket Board has cancelled plans to play in the triangular series because of scheduling difficulties, while security issues and player workload were also considered.
"There were a number of issues to manage but in the end, it came down to a problem with dates," ACB spokesman Michael Brown said.
"The decision was made after consultation with organisers, players, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australian Cricketers Association during recent weeks."
The players had been reluctant to play in the 17-day tournament because of their already crowded schedules, with home Test series against Bangladesh in July-August and Zimbabwe in October.
Under their contractual arrangements, players must make themselves available for any tournaments sanctioned by the ACB.
The ACB has told the Sharjah-based tournament organisers, Cricketer Benefit Fund Series (CBFS), that it hoped to take part in future tournaments.
"We have told CBFS we are still very interested in future visits, particularly if they can be developed to become a permanent part of the international cricket calendar," Brown said.
"They have a successful track record running tournaments in Sharjah and more recently in Morocco."
The Australian one-day squad arrives home from the Caribbean next Wednesday after playing their final matches against the West Indies in Grenada on Friday and Sunday.
