Ashes urn to touch down in Sydney
Cricket's much-coveted Ashes urn will touch down in Sydney on Tuesday under close curator escort.
NSW tourism minister Sandra Nori said the urn will arrive on board a Virgin Atlantic flight direct from London, amid tight security and in the care of the Marylebone Cricket Club curator.
The historic cricket symbol will form the centrepiece of the Museum of Sydney's Ashes Exhibition from October 21 until November 8.
It is only the second time in Australia's history the urn will be displayed in Australia, the last occasion being 1988.
Sydney will be the first Australian city to host the cricket icon.
"Like all true English cricket lovers, the Ashes urn is a welcome visitor to Australia this summer and we would love it to stay a long time," Ms Nori said.
Ms Nori encouraged the Barmy Army and other Brits to make the trip to Sydney for the fifth Ashes test in January.
