New Socceroos coach a priority: Buckley
Australia is on the lookout for a coach to replace Pim Verbeek, and there is no bigger marketplace than the World Cup.
"We have got our looking glasses on all the time," said Football Federation Australia (FFA) chairman Frank Lowy.
The FFA is seeking to fill the vacancy that will be created when Morocco-bound Verbeek leaves the Socceroos after the World Cup.
Lowy said it would be "nice" to fill the job before the Asian Cup tournament in Qatar in January, but he refused to speculate on who the FFA might be interested in.
"When we find a good coach we will appoint him," Lowy said.
Asked about reports that Dutch great Ruud Gullit could be interested, making three Dutch coaches in a row after Guus Hiddink and Verbeek, he said: "The last thing I will do is discuss here who we are interested in and who we are not."
FFA chief executive Ben Buckley said: "We have to move pretty quickly because we have matches starting in August.
"We want to be in a position to have a top coach, and that's always subject to one being available.
"It is a priority for us.
"There's a large number of the world of football here so we'll be discussing it with various parties."
Buckley said the Australian team "needs to be settled in who the coach is" before the Asian Cup.
