Coria cuts down Scud
Mark Philippoussis has capitulated in his quarterfinal tennis match against Guillermo Coria at the Hamburg Masters.
Argentine Coria took less than hour to sweep past Philippoussis 6-2 6-0.
Philippoussis was unable to match his performance in ousting Roger Federer and looked frustrated by Coria's accurate passing shots from the baseline.
The big-serving Australian stuck with his serve-and-volley game, making Coria's job that easier.
"It went faster that I thought," Coria said.
"He served and volleyed and I could dictate the match from the baseline."
"I played an incredible match. I am getting better with every match and I hope to be 10 out of 10 in Paris," he said.
"I practiced really hard before the season and it's paying off now. The way tennis is played these days, you practically have to kill yourself in practice to be able to play at this level," Coria said.
Fellow Argentine David Nalbandian joined Coria in the semifinals when he rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to beat Fernando Gonzalez 5-7 6-3 6-4 .
The eighth seed is the highest-ranked player left in the field.
