Elliott angry despite win
Canberra rugby league coach Matthew Elliott is a hard man to please.
His team crunched out a 15-8 victory over the Wests Tigers, won their first match at Leichhardt Oval in nine years and recorded their first back-to-back away victories since 2001.
But at the post-match press conference Elliott was not exactly jumping for joy after a physical Tigers inflicted injuries to several of his players, with reserve back Michael Monaghan going to hospital suffering a broken jaw.
"I'm probably not feeling as jubilant as I should," Elliott said.
"I've got a player going to hospital with a broken jaw who was hit late so I can't say I'm as happy as I should be.
"I don't like seeing my players busted, not in that fashion anyway."
Elliott admitted he did not see the 60th minute incident and could not say who made the alleged late hit but he expected NRL commissioner Jim Hall to carefully study the videotape on Monday.
"I missed it, other than he (Monaghan) passed the ball and next thing he came off with a broken jaw," Elliott said.
But Monaghan's injury wasn't the only concern for the Raiders, with prop Luke Davico (broken nose) and Troy Thompson (shoulder) also casualties from some brutal Tigers' defence which stopped several tries from being scored.
"Getting to the positive side of things, 12 months ago we don't win that game," Elliott said, whose side won just one away game in 2002.
