Waugh ready for ING Cup final
Captain Steve Waugh has declared himself fit to lead New South Wales in Sunday's ING Cup cricket final against Western Australia at the WACA Ground.
The national Test captain has been battling a hamstring strain he suffered in last weekend's victory over South Australia at Telstra Stadium.
But Waugh, who is renowned for his ability to play through the pain barrier, said he had dealt with more severe injuries in the past.
"Look I have played with worse injuries, it is pretty good, I was leaving it until the last minute to really stretch out today," he said.
"But in my own mind I am preparing to play."
West Australian counterpart Justin Langer was in no doubt the elder Waugh twin would be a starter as NSW looked for its third straight domestic one-day title.
"You would have to cut his leg off for him not to play," he said.
But the jury is still out on wicketkeeper Brad Haddin who moved a little gingerly on his injured hamstring.
Waugh said a decision on Haddin would be made just before the match with Nathan Pilon on standby.
"I think he wants to play and in his own mind he wants to play, but we won't know until tomorrow," he said.
