It's not about the money: Waugh
Australian Test captain Steve Waugh has answered questions over his precarious one-day career in a back page article written for the The Daily Telegraph.
Waugh was excluded from Australia's top 30 one-day players, when the squad for next February's World Cup was announced on Monday.
The 37-year-old wrote he still hadn't given up hope of forcing his way back in and Waugh rejected the suggestion that his perseverance was about money.
"The one point I disagree with totally is the notion that money keeps you playing," Waugh wrote.
"If money was my intent, it would be much less stressful and easier to play County cricket (in England) and earn more money that I can by playing for Australia.
"...I would play for nothing if there was no revenue being generated from the game."
He said it was "the Australian way to never give up", which was a reason why the cricket side was such a success.
A poll of over 1000 readers showed 93.2 per cent believed Waugh should be in the top 30 one-day cricketers in the country.
