Appleby gets Daly and Monty in round one
Stuart Appleby is guaranteed one of the biggest galleries for the opening round of the British Open on Thursday, having been grouped with John Daly and Colin Montgomerie.
Daly, the wild-man of golf, and British favourite Montgomerie are a study in opposites that will attract the crowds at Hoylake, just outside Liverpool.
Queenslander John Senden's victory in the John Deere Classic has qualified him for the British Open, boosting Australian numbers to a record 23 for the Open.
Former runner-up Steve Elkington will be the first Australian to tee off at 6.30am (3.30pm AEST) on Thursday, followed soon after by Senden, with Wayne Perske to be the last at 4.10pm (1.10am AEST).
