Roff returns to Aussie rugby
Joe Roff will make his return to the Australian rugby scene on Friday night when the ACT Brumbies take on the Auckland Blues in a trial match at Wollongong's WIN Stadium.
Roff took last year off to play club rugby in France with Biarritz, but has returned to the Brumbies with a view towards playing in this year's World Cup.
He was originally slated to play in the international sevens tournament at Ballymore but withdrew with a hamstring injury.
The winger, who last played for the Brumbies in the 2001 Super 12 final win over the Sharks, has been listed as fullback.
The Brumbies named two teams for the Wollongong trial with each side to play a half.
Roff, Scott Fava, Matt Giteau and Stirling Mortlock have been listed to play a full 80 minutes.
Giteau, who made his Test debut for the Wallabies last year, will be making his debut for the Brumbies with coach David Nucifora keen to see how he fares.
"I'm not too concerned with who's starting for each team but I'm more interested in how individuals perform and consistency will be important," said Nucifora.
"We had a really good internal trial last Friday and this week's match will be a good step up, especially for some of the new players."
"Auckland are a powerful team and it's important we play the game at the right tempo and concentrate on our execution."
