Queensland Reds down Japan 29-22
The Queensland Reds defeated Japan 29-22 at Tokyo National Stadium.
Caleb Brown, Andrew Brown, Henari Veratau and Peter Hynes all scored tries for Queensland while league convert Clinton Schifcofske played the full 80 minutes and kicked three conversions and one penalty.
On the wrong side of a 19-6 penalty count, the Reds were forced to work hard to stay in the game.
New coach Eddie Jones said he was pleased the team stuck out a tough match to take the win.
"The opposition worked really hard at the breakdown to slow our ball down and make it difficult for us," Jones said.
"It was a tough match and a good one to win."
Jones was also pleased with the performance of new recruit Schifcofske, playing in his first game for the Reds.
"Clinton was steady all match," he said.
"It was a great experience for him and he'll improve as he goes along."
